Before I get started ,i’d like to apologize for the inconsistent backgrounds.AF&T is having a bit of an identity crisis with pics coming from my bedroom(which by the way has an awful lavender paintjob that we’ll be painting over) and from my dining room table top.Change is imminent.Back to the subject matter.I recently completed a trade with The Clawful Punch’s headman John(jboypacman) and acquired some Joe goodness! Not pictured are the file cards and extra accessories john was nice enough to add to an already epic box-o-goodies!Good looking out jboy;)
If anybody’s ever received a package from jboy, then this cool little card may look very familiar to you.John is a class act and makes sure to always include a hand written letter with every box of goodies.I can appreciate that.
With the new Ultimate Snake Eyes figure set to be released this month,i thought I would take a look at another Snake Eyes that in my eyes,is also deserving of the “Ultimate”title.
The only “mail away” figure I ever owned as a kid was Super Trooper, and while I did have the Triple T tank with Sgt.Slaughter,i always wanted the “mail-away” version. I must say that I was skeptical about picking this up online. For the 8 dollar price tag shipped I expected the Sarge to have a ton of play wear and/or loose joints.Luckily he arrived in amazing condition!I was a bit bummed about the condition of my international Slaughter so this one more than made up for that.
Very cool figure. The Kwinn character screams bad ass and the correlation between he and Snake Eyes is a huge plus. The sculpt and color scheme effectively capture the essence and likeness of everybody’s(well..not so much mine as I only have dated memories of Kwinn from issue 2) favorite mercenary for hire and the accessories rock. But there’s a problem. He’s dead!I know it’s only an action figure but the fact that Kwinn dies in a later issue of G.I. Joe bugs the crap out of me!Think of the missions he and Snake Eyes could have gone on!Kwinn has to make a movie appearance and if he dies in it,then they have to do something to bring him back.Ala Captain America,in the form of a spirit, cyborg,i don’t know.JUST BRING HIM BACK!iT BUGS ME TO HAVE SUCH A COOL FIGURE OF A CHARACTER THAT’S DEAD!Now that I got that off my chest, enjoy the pics!
I’m really not in the mood to write anything today so here are the pics.
These next couple of days will be Joe-heavy as I’ve recently picked up some G.I. goodness!Today we’ll be taking a look at Budo from the new wave of “Ultimate” Joes. When I think of Samurai, some favorites quickly come to mind.Soulcalibur’s Mitsurugi,Samurai Jack and Budo top that list.As a kid, right around the time my love of collecting G.I. Joes began to dwindle, certain figures would pull me back in.There was Spearhead and Max,Repeater,Raptor and Road Pig!Then there was Budo! Now at the time G.I. Joe had it’s fair share of martial artists.Quick Kick,Snake Eyes,Jinx and Storm Shadow. But Budo was a friggin’ Samurai! Are you kidding me?!?!A Samurai?!?!How cool was he gonna look rocking his ceremonial head piece,Samurai sword in hand hanging off the side of my Rolling Thunder! I had to add him to my collection and eventually did.I loved my Budo figure as a kid! When I heard the news about a new ultimate version of Budo figure set to release in the fall, adding it to my collection was pretty much an automatic. I wasn’t about to wait for Budo to hit store pegs either so I hopped online and picked this baby up!Call me biased but imo, this figure truly is a masterpiece.A work of art if you will. The helmet alone looks like something you’d see in the Smithsonian. The Kimono is super detailed and while it takes away from the figures mobility, really pops!Just an amazing stand alone figure.Doubly awesome is the fact that Budo is a Joe!
Somewhere there is a poor reindeer wondering what the hell happened to his antlers
This figure I had as a kid along with the Warthog.I loved that thing!I used to pack it in with as many Joes as possible and go on kick ass missions with them!If Cobra ever had any Joe hostages, this version of Sgt.Slaughter along with a heavily manned Warthog would get the nod over any other Joe vehicle. It sucks that I wasn’t able to find one complete w/hat but oh well. One thing that always stuck out on these Slaughter figures was the height and muscles on the arm sculpts.
The prospect of a Slaughter/Snake Eyes two man platoon inspired this pic.
The prospect of a C.C. ass woopin’ inspired this one.
Certain figures from the 80’s G.I. Joe line seem to be impossible to find online for a reasonable price.Snake Eyes,Storm Shadow,Zartan and Sgt. Slaughter come to mind.I’ve been wanting to add a Slaughter figure to my collection for ever it seems but never even bothered to pursue any of them online because of the ridiculous prices. Then I stumbled across this international rendition of everybody’s favorite Joe drill sergeant carded(somewhat)for about 8 bucks shipped! After using the zoom option I realized why they priced it so low as the card and bubble was all kinds of warped and the popular baton accessory was missing.I said what the heck and proceeded to check out.Days later the figure arrived and while I knew the bubble was unattached and the card was extremely bent, nothing could have prepared me for the horror that would ensue. This was Sgt.Slaughter on crack!I know,i know it’s an international Joe with lower quality plastic and less paint apps, but MAN!It seems like this figure skipped right past the deburring station and right into its packaging. It pained me to see such a legendary toy line get such horrible treatment.I guess I got what I paid for plus he’s not a total loss. The figure is relatively what it is,and will look cool back in it’s bubble and up on the wall.
